1,4-butanediol (BDO) Market and Trend

1,4-butanediol (BDO) is a colorless viscous oily liquid that is miscible with water and soluble in methanol, ethanol and acetone. It is hygroscopic, slightly bitter, and is an important organic and fine chemical raw material. Acetaldehyde Method is the dominant BDO production process, accounting for 57% installed capacity. This is followed by Epichlorohydrin Method, Butadiene Method and Maleic Anhydride Method.

The global BDO market size was 1.17 million tons in 2017, growing to 2.05 million tons in 2022, with a CAGR of 11.9% from 2017 to 2022. As an important raw material for biodegradable materials, BDO market demand is expected to continue to grow, and the global BDO market size is expected to grow to 4.50 million tons in 2027, with a CAGR of 17.0% from 2022 to 2027.
